Definitions
Indirect sight loss costs are the sum or a variety of costs with informal care provided to blind and partially sighted people by family and friends the largest component. Other significant included costs are lower rates of employment and the cost of specialist equipment. Calculation
Indirect cost of sight loss in a local authority was calculated as follows:
Number of people living with sight loss in the local authority/Total number of people living with sight loss in the UK x £5.3 billion
